Just A Few Reasons To Put Your Teen In Ballet Classes

Posted on

Technology has many teens spending all their free time staring at some type of screen. Whether it is their phone a tablet, a computer, or a television, the whole world is available to them through the internet. Unfortunately, this means that many teenagers do not get outside, or engage in physical activities to maintain healthy bodies. Some may join school sports teams, but unless they join a team for each season, they do not remain active once the sports season is over. To keep them active, enroll them in ballet classes. In addition to the exercise involved, there are many other benefits to this activity. Here are just a few:

Strength, Coordination, Balance, and Flexibility

Very few sports or exercise activities offer strength, coordination, balance, and flexibility. While they may help with two or even three of these traits, they don't offer all four. Ballet does. This is not only good for the overall health of your teen but can be advantageous to how your child performs in any other sport they are involved in. Many professional athletes have found that ballet has helped improve their playing.

Confidence

The teen years can be hard on a child's confidence. They may have body issues due to weight or could be awkward because of growth spurts. Ballet will increase muscle tone and help your child build a strong, healthy body that will increase their pride and confidence. This will carry over to other aspects of their lives. Also, performing on stage for recitals will also improve how a teen feels about themselves.

New Friendships

Your teen probably has a group of friends they are comfortable with and have been friends with for many years. Even if their group consists of good, respectable kids, learning to form new friendships and to accept others that would not normally be included in their group is important. It will help them as they grow and start new schools or begin working. The more teens learn to work with and accept others, they will have a better understanding of people in general. This will help them to learn more about themselves.

There are many forms of dance that may offer the same benefits as ballet. However, unless your child has been involved with classical music, ballet will take them a bit out of their comfort zone. They will have to pay more attention and be more focused. Also, the positions and movements involved in ballet will take time to learn and master. This will give your child even more pride and confidence.
