3 Tips To Succeeding At Archery

If you want to take up archery, here are three tips that you should keep in mind as you practice in order to successfully pick up archery as quickly as possible.

#1 Keep A Proper Stance

One of the big keys to archery is keeping your body in the right stance when you shoot. Your stance is incredibly important with archery, just like it is in other sports, such as bowling and golfing. Keeping the right stance will help you succeed in hitting your target with more accuracy.

The T-shaped stance is the most widely used stance in archery. With a T-stance, your feet should be positioned so that they are shoulder width apart and that your weight is evenly distributed on both legs; you don't want to put more weight on your front leg that is closest to your target.

Your body should be set-up so that it is perpendicular to what you are shooting. Your face should be looking and focusing on your target, not at your bow. With your arms, one hand should be holding the bow and the other and should be pulling back the string, making a t-shape, thus the name of the stance.

When you actually pull back on the bow, keep your arm close to your face. Your arm should be in line with your face as you pull back the bow and arrow. Try to keep your stance correct will improve your accuracy. You may want to have someone watch your stance and provide you with insight into any parts of your stance that you are doing incorrectly.

#2 Keep A Light Grip

Your grip is another important component at being successful at archery. You need to watch how tight your grip is. Your grip should be soft on the bow and a little relaxed. If your grip the bow too firmly, your grip can actually interfere with the trajectory of your arrow. When your grip is too tight, your arrow is more likely to move in an unexpected direction when you release an arrow.

#3 Use Your Back

Many people assume that archery is all about your arm muscles. Even though you do use your arm muscles in archery, you also use your back muscles a lot as well. When you pull back your bow, you should actually be trying to keep your arm muscles loose. Loose arms will allow you to keep your bow steady and your arrow on the right trajectory. By contrast, your back muscles should not be loose. You should be standing up as tall and straight as possible and engaging your back muscles as much as possible as you draw your bow. Your back muscles generally have more strength in them then your arm muscles, and can help keep your arms stable and your shot accurate.
